Kiki Terrell’s “Getting Some” released by Tamarind Tree Publishing

Kiki Terrell is a mother of three, writer and businesswoman, born in Barbados but currently resident in England. ‘Getting Some‘ is her first novel. She is presently pursuing an MA in Creative Writing. Tamarind Tree Publishing is her company.
Getting Some Cover - Large
The novel is about three women from America and the Caribbean, pursuing life and love in the UK.

What do you do when getting what you want in life and love requires giving up everything you thought you owned? Chama, Tasha and Coco are three friends pursuing their dreams in London. Tasha’s newly-minted, new-age world view makes her current life peaceful and her gangster past something of a distant memory – until her man’s self-imposed celibacy ban is broken just long enough for him to impregnate her – and propose to someone else. Coco’s just about managing to keep her life, her staff and her husband firmly in the palm of her hand, until one wild indiscretion sends her into a tailspin and causes everything she knows to crumble. Chama’s Christian values – and her belief in happily ever after – are challenged by her husband’s impotence. Does a founding member and head of the women’s ministry of the Blessed Family Church leave her husband for his inability to have sex? Things come to a head when the secret that two of them have allowed to remain buried erupts in one life-changing afternoon and it seems like things can never be the same again.

You can find Kiki Terrell on Facebook, Twitter @KikiTerrell  and on Wattapad (at)  KikiTerrell2013.

Nice things happen to me in Sweden – The Valborg night bonfire that wasn’t

Salmon with avacados
Salmon with avocados

We had traditional Varlborg night food of salmon (surprise), potatoes (surprise) and asparagus (family tradition).

The choir
The choir was there and sang songs of Spring.

This was to be my first Valborg night celebration. I can’t remember where I usually am on 30 April, but this 30 April I was on a west coast beach ready to experience another Swedish tradition.

Despite the wind it was beautiful.
Despite the wind it was beautiful time to be on the beach, just after 8pm.

And I wasn’t alone. The year-round residents came, maybe some other people were from out of town like us.

Braving the wind and cold.
Braving the wind and cold. But not without mug thermos of hot chocolate.

There was poetry and more songs and a speech….and we listened.

We listened listened listened
Is was a very nice program.

But the bonfire tradition was broken this year as the fire department said it was too windy for a fire. And I’m sure they were right.

I imagine it would have been beautiful.
I imagine the bonfire would have been beautiful.

But we took advantage of the social event to have fun anyway.

Talk talk talk
So we talked, talked, talked.

So we came home and had our own fire.

We had a fire after all.
We had a fire after all.

What a nice night! Nice things happen to me in Sweden.
