Black expats celebrate Dr. King’s legacy

Today is the national holiday to honor the legacy of the late Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Black expats and American around the world can honor the legacy of Dr. King by participating in Democrats Abroad Day of Service opportunities. Find out what is happening near you by contacting your local Democrats Abroad chapter.

If you live in the Stockholm, Sweden region you can join Democrats Abroad Sweden for two service days to celebrate King’s legacy:

Dates: 20-21 January 2010
Time: 9.30-12.30 (meet location at 9.15)
Place: Stadmissonen Bostället at Högbergsgatan 51, Stockholm
# of volunteers requested each day: 10-12

Program:
Keeping in line with President Obama’s Call to Service and a National Service Day on Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday, the Democrats Abroad Sweden Stockholm Chapter will perform our day of service on Stockholm’s south side.

Over two days we will help the residents of the Stadmissonen Bostället at Högbergsgatan 51, who need help “renovating” a room on the 6th floor. Painting will be involved so volunteers should come dressed appropriately. Donations of paint brushes and paint will be gratefully accepted. We have been invited to have lunch with the residents at 12.30.
